Indonesia Scrutinises Platforms Over AI Dramas With Gambling Content

Patria addressed the media on 23 October, after he attended an event at the Film Censorship Board in Bogor, West Java. He said the short films are produced with artificial intelligence and that they are aggressive on social platforms.
Social Media Is Open, Money Is Spent in Other Places
These films exist to get the user to click. The click lands on a different platform, where access has to be paid for. The content there is almost a censorship-free viewing experience, Patria said.
The check of compliance will also cover platforms that are not registered locally but are still achieving their goal by connecting through social media. The ministry treats that way of delivery, more than local incorporation, as a reason for action.
Shared Dashboard Is the Main Tool
Kemkomdigi has already been collaborating with social platforms through a joint dashboard to monitor content that is potentially illegal. The ministry has not published the names of the platforms involved or what the dashboard will cover.
Patria also raised the possibility of involving the Film Censorship Board, which has experience censoring negative content. Monitoring over-the-top services needs deeper coordination with technology companies, he said. The aim is not limited to the social media networks but should cover the destination applications too.
Two Gambling Interventions in Four Days
Indonesian authorities have now hit gambling from both angles, within one week. Bank Indonesia warned payment service providers on 21 October that involvement in illegal transactions may cost them their licences, which 15M reported at the time.
Komdigi’s platform-content statement was put forward within the next three days. Adding the two, gambling was addressed by two separate arms of the state within four days, with a 15M count of the two announcements.
The ministry named three types of content together: pornography, sexual violence and gambling. Tying gambling to the other two shapes how any platform response is likely to be framed.
No blocking orders, fines, or deadlines are provided along with the statement. Komdigi characterises the job being done as scrutiny and coordination. That leaves the next step with the platforms rather than the regulator.
