Continent 8 Extends 100-Site Network to South Africa in Q4

The facility will be linked directly to the company’s private global backbone. Operators, platform providers and content suppliers catering to the South African market will be able to access it through this network. Public routes are not part of that path.
Africa Held None of the 100-Plus Locations
The release refers to a network comprising over 100 interconnected sites worldwide. It also identifies the Johannesburg facility as Continent 8’s inaugural deployment on the African continent. From these statements, it can be inferred that the network currently has no presence in Africa.
This inference is drawn from the two claims made within the same document. Continent 8 has not provided a regional breakdown of its network. It has also cited no source for its assertion that the network is among the top 20 most connected globally.
The announcement gives no investment figure and no staffing plan. It does not say whether a second African site is planned. The Johannesburg data centre is described as the company’s foothold in the region rather than part of a broader expansion plan.
The Stated Quarter Leaves 92 Days
"Live in Q4 2026" spans 1 October to 31 December. Measured from the 30 September announcement, that is a window of up to 92 days. The figure is a 15M calculation from the company’s own wording. Operators timing a migration have nothing narrower to plan against.
The company has similarly not disclosed where in Johannesburg the facility will sit. Its colocation partner and opening capacity are also unstated.
Tier III Site Carries the Full Managed Stack
The new data centre will feature Tier III infrastructure in an environment certified to ISO 27001 standards. Services will include colocation, managed infrastructure, cloud connectivity, content delivery, DDoS protection and managed cybersecurity. Clients will also have direct connectivity to AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
"South Africa is one of the most important, regulated betting markets in the world, and establishing a presence in Johannesburg allows us to bring the full strength of the Continent 8 platform closer to customers operating in the region." — Mike Small, chief executive, Continent 8 Technologies.
Andrew Mudge, head of sales for EMEA, said customers are increasingly doing business in several regulated markets. They want technology partners who can support that strategy, he added.
While South Africa permits online sports betting through provincial boards, online casino games are not licensed. The next major milestone will be the start of operations, which is due before 31 December 2026.
