PowerPlay Relaunches Ontario App with Major Updates
The operator rolled out a redesigned mobile platform with over 1,200 casino games and improved user features

PowerPlay just launched its revamped mobile app for Ontario players, operating under AGCO regulation while targeting local gamblers with both casino and sports betting options.

Jon Parker serves as the company’s Chief Product Officer, with Thomas Vermeulen handling marketing duties as Marketing Director.

The operator’s competing against bigger brands in Ontario’s regulated market, but it’s taking a completely different approach than the major players who dominate most markets.

Why This App Redesign Matters for Players

PowerPlay built the new version based on feedback from Ontario users because the company wanted to fix problems players actually complained about. “Our goal was simple: Create an app that’s fun and effortless for Ontario players,” Parker said, noting the design focuses on speed and smoothness.

Vermeulen took direct aim at larger competitors. “While big operators throw money at flashy, generic products, we went the other way, listening to local players,” he explained. The company sees itself as an alternative to billion-dollar brands that use cookie-cutter approaches.

What Changed in the New App

The platform now offers more than 1,200 casino games alongside full sportsbook markets for sports betting, with both iOS and Android users able to download the app. PowerPlay streamlined the account registration process and login system while giving the bet slip major improvements so players can place wagers more easily than before.

The app also provides personalised offers that change based on how each player uses the platform – a feature that wasn’t available in the previous version.

How This Fits PowerPlay’s Ontario Strategy

PowerPlay’s been working on its Ontario presence for over two years, starting in June 2023 when it launched a geolocation system that redirected players to local sites. That changed in April 2025 when players gained direct access to the Ontario platform without any redirects.

The company operates under full AGCO compliance covering both casino games and sports betting activities in the province. But PowerPlay’s approach differs from competitors who use the same app across multiple markets – instead, it built something specifically for Ontario players.

The timing comes as Ontario’s regulated market continues growing with more operators launching. PowerPlay thinks local focus gives it an edge over generic platforms, especially since Vermeulen described their strategy as being “the bold alternative you can root for.”

This represents a significant shift from the one-size-fits-all approach most operators use when entering new markets.
