Ontario Casino Revenue Hits Record as Betting Drops 30%

Ontario’s regulated private iGaming market generated C$396.3 million in August, but the headline total hid a sharp split between its two largest verticals. Casino revenue reached a new monthly record of C$336.3 million while betting revenue fell 30% from July to C$54.4 million.
The iGaming Ontario monthly market-performance dataset, updated on September 23, shows C$9.74 billion in cash wagers for August. That was 1.5% below July’s record C$9.88 billion, but still the second-highest monthly total since the market opened in April 2022.
Total non-adjusted gross gaming revenue fell 4% month on month. It was still 18% above August 2025, while wagering was almost 20% higher year on year.
Casino Takes 85% of Revenue
Casino remained the main driver of Ontario’s market in August. The vertical accounted for most wagers and revenue, while betting saw a sharper monthly decline.
- Casino. Wagers reached C$8.78 billion, almost unchanged from July. Revenue rose 2% to a record C$336.3 million, giving the vertical about 84.9% of total market revenue and 90.1% of wagers. Compared with August 2025, casino revenue increased by roughly 26% from C$267.8 million.
- Betting. Wagers fell 15% to C$843 million, while revenue dropped 30% to C$54.4 million. The vertical accounted for about 8.7% of wagers but 13.7% of revenue. Year on year, betting wagers were around 10% higher, while revenue was about 10% lower.
Peer-to-peer poker accounted for another C$122 million in wagers and C$5.6 million in revenue.
Betting Revenue Ratio Drops to 6.45%
The difference between betting and casino becomes clearer when looking at revenue generated per dollar wagered. Betting revenue was equivalent to about 6.45% of wagers in August. In July, C$77.8 million of revenue on C$992 million wagered put the same implied ratio at about 7.84%. The difference between the two months was around 1.39 percentage points.
Casino barely moved on the same calculation. Its implied revenue-to-wager ratio increased from about 3.76% in July to 3.83% in August.
The numbers help explain why total wagering stayed close to a record while market revenue slipped below C$400 million. August also ended a four-month run in which monthly revenue had remained above that level.
Active Accounts Fall After Record July
Active player accounts fell to 1.208 million, down 11% from July’s record level. Average revenue per active account nevertheless rose to C$328.
The figure does not represent unique players, as one person can hold accounts with more than one operator. iGaming Ontario also excludes OLG’s iGaming business and pari-mutuel horse-racing wagering from its monthly market figures.
