Indonesia Flags 39,923 Bank Accounts for Gambling Checks

The number is up from 38,796 in OJK’s previous update. Both figures refer to accounts identified for further action, rather than confirmed bank closures. The underlying account data comes from Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.
The Account Total Rose 2.9% Between Reports
The two monthly disclosures show how the number of flagged accounts has changed.
| OJK disclosure | Accounts |
|---|---|
| October 5, 2026 | 38,796 |
| November 5, 2026 | 39,923 |
| Change | +1,127 (+2.9%) |
The earlier figure was reported by RRI on October 6. The new total was reported by ANTARA following the November 5 press conference.
Dian Ediana Rae, OJK’s chief banking supervisor, confirmed that banks had been asked to carry out enhanced checks and/or blocking.
EDD involves examining higher-risk customers and their transactions more closely. OJK’s reported total combines accounts referred for these checks and/or blocking. The regulator did not say how many of those accounts had been checked or blocked.
Banks Must Check Other Accounts Linked to the Same NIK
Banks have also been instructed to identify accounts registered under the same National Identity Number (NIK) as people suspected of online gambling. OJK wants matching accounts closed and subjected to additional checks.
The instruction was already present in the October 5 report. It covers accounts beyond those initially identified by the communications ministry. In July, the ministry reported that around 32,500 of approximately 38,000 referred accounts had been closed, as 15M covered at the time.
