Denmark’s Online Casino Share Reaches 61% as Betting GGR Falls 42.7%

The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, published its August market figures on October 8. The report covers betting, online casino and three land-based gambling categories. Annual percentage changes are adjusted for GDP development, while the reported GGR amounts are in Danish kroner.
Betting Falls to DKK132M in August
Betting recorded the largest fall. Revenue reached DKK132 million, down 42.7% from August 2025 on the adjusted basis. Online casino moved in the opposite direction. Its GGR rose 12.5% to DKK415 million, more than three times the betting figure.
The other gambling categories reported smaller movements:
- Gaming machines – DKK95 million, down 2.6% YoY;
- Land-based casinos – DKK34 million, up 8.7%;
- Land-based bingo – DKK3 million, up 6.4%.
Online Casino Gains 3.9 Percentage Points of Market Share
A comparison with July gives another view of the August figures. Denmark’s gambling market generated DKK760 million in July, including DKK435.5 million from online casino and DKK197.5 million from betting, as 15M reported in September.
Using these totals, online casino represented 57.3% of liberalised market GGR in July. Its share reached 61.2% in August, an increase of 3.9 percentage points.
That happened even though online casino revenue declined by DKK20.5 million between the two months. Betting fell by DKK65.5 million over the same period. The entire liberalised market contracted by DKK82 million.
By 15M’s calculation, the reduction in betting revenue accounted for approximately 80% of that July-to-August decline. These figures compare consecutive months rather than the same month in different years.
August Reverses July’s Market Growth
July had been a stronger month for both major categories. The regulator reported a 17.2% annual increase in total gambling spend, with online casino up 22% and betting up 21.3%.
August produced a different result. Casino revenue remained above its year-earlier level, but the decline in betting was large enough to bring the market total below August 2025.
Spillemyndigheden now provides both nominal and GDP-adjusted figures in its monthly statistics collection. The latter accounts for changes in the size of Denmark’s economy when comparing annual performance.
The August release puts the market at DKK678 million. Of that amount, casino and betting together generated DKK547 million, or about 80.7% of the liberalised total.
