Denmark Gambling Spend Reaches DKK760M in July

Denmark’s regulated gambling spend climbed to DKK760m in July, up 17.2% from a year earlier. Online casino remained the largest segment and posted the strongest increase among the main categories.

Online casino generated DKK435.5m during the month, according to the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden. That was 22% higher than in July 2025. The category accounted for around 57% of the country’s total regulated gambling spend in July.

Betting also recorded a strong month. Spending reached DKK197.5m, an increase of 21.3% year on year. Together, online casino and betting contributed DKK633m of the DKK760m total.

Retail Segments Stay Close to Last Year’s Levels

The picture was different outside the two largest online-led categories. Gaming machines generated DKK92.2m in July. The figure was down 0.1% from the same month last year.

Land-based casinos, in turn, brought in DKK32.5m, a 4% decline year on year. Bingo remained a much smaller part of the market at DKK2.28m and fell 7.9%.

July spending was split as follows:

Online casino – DKK435.5m;
Betting – DKK197.5m;
Gaming machines – DKK92.2m;
Land-based casinos – DKK32.5m;
Bingo – DKK2.28m.

The gap between the categories is sizable. Online casino generated over twice as much as betting and more than four times the amount recorded by gaming machines.

Spillemyndigheden Updates Its Statistics Tool

The regulator also introduced an additional way to compare historical gambling data. Users can now adjust previous spending figures to the current year’s GDP level.

Spillemyndigheden said the calculation is based on data from Denmark’s latest Economic Survey. The standard nominal figures remain available, meaning both versions can be used when looking at longer-term market movements.

The new option is useful when comparing periods affected by changes in the wider economy, although July’s raw figures already point to where most of the growth came from. Casino and betting were both up by more than 20%, while none of the three smaller categories recorded an increase. For operators active in Denmark, the July numbers therefore add another month in which online activity did most of the work behind the headline market growth.
