TikTok Updates Gambling Ad Rules in Brazil After Federal Ban

The official TikTok notice prohibits all forms of online gambling advertising in Brazil. It also names gambling information services, a separate category that can include content about betting rather than the betting platforms themselves.
Betting Ads Lose Their Approval Route
That is a change from TikTok’s earlier rules for Brazil. Online casinos and sportsbooks could previously advertise after working with a TikTok sales representative to obtain permission. Gambling information services had a similar approval requirement. The latest restrictions remove that route for all three categories.
TikTok defines gambling information as material offering betting insights, statistics or strategies intended to improve gambling outcomes. Betting tips and odds analysis can therefore fall within the restricted category, even when the advertiser is not a sportsbook.
The notice does not specify when the revised policy took effect or whether advertisers with existing approvals received a transition period.
Brazil’s Advertising Ban Came First
The platform’s decision follows Brazil’s wider crackdown on online betting. Provisional Measure 1,394, signed on September 25, 2026, prohibited fixed-odds betting operations and advertising nationwide. The Finance Ministry’s implementation timetable required affected betting websites and apps to become unavailable from October 6.
As 15M reported on September 30, Brazilian authorities had notified eight digital platforms over gambling advertising. The list included TikTok, Google, Meta, YouTube, X, Telegram, Kwai and Discord. The advertising removal deadline was October 5.
TikTok’s new wording therefore does not introduce Brazil’s national betting ban. It spells out how the restriction applies to advertising purchased through its own platform.
Betting Tips Are Covered, Too
TikTok’s ban goes beyond ads linking directly to casinos or sportsbooks. Paid promotions for betting tips and odds analysis may also fall under gambling information services, including when they lead to an affiliate content site.
The October notice does not specify which affiliate formats are affected. It also concerns paid advertising rather than unpaid posts or independent gambling journalism.
Lotteries, fantasy sports and free-to-play social casino games remain subject to separate advertising rules. For agencies running betting campaigns, replacing a sportsbook link with a predictions page won’t necessarily get an ad approved.
