Macau’s casinos delivered their second-best month of 2025 in June. The territory’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reported gross gaming revenue of MOP21.06 billion (US$2.60 billion).
That’s a solid 19% jump from June 2024. Only May performed better this year, with MOP21.19 billion in revenue.
The city’s six licensed operators all benefited from the surge. Galaxy Macau hosted the key entertainment that drove a great extent of the growth.
Cantopop superstar Jacky Cheung’s concert series made all the difference. Investment banks pointed to his shows at Galaxy Arena as the main reason for June’s strong numbers.
The concerts helped offset what’s usually a slower period for Macau casinos. Summer months typically see revenue dips, but not this time.
Citigroup’s table survey on June 20 showed premium mass wager was 58% higher than the same period last year. That’s a massive increase that caught analysts by surprise.
Non-gaming attractions are proving their worth. They’re not just extras anymore – they’re driving real casino traffic.
June’s total brought the first half of 2025 to MOP118.77 billion in casino revenue. That’s 4.4% higher than the same six months in 2024.
The average monthly take now sits at MOP19.79 billion. It’s above the MOP19 billion average the government expects for the full year.
But June was still down 0.6% from May’s peak. The city’s casinos are running close to their revised 2025 forecast of MOP228 billion total revenue.
Second quarter results were equally strong. Casino GGR rose 8.3% year-on-year to almost MOP61.12 billion.
The strong performance comes as major changes loom for the territory. Satellite gaming operations will be phased out by year’s end.
This shift will hit the ZAPE district hard. A big chunk of that area’s economy depends on these smaller gaming venues.
Entertainment is becoming crucial for casino success. Major concerts and shows aren’t just nice-to-haves – they’re revenue drivers that can beat seasonal trends.
The government’s forecast might need another revision if this momentum continues. Six months of solid growth suggest Macau’s recovery has more steam than officials expected.
Operators are learning that diversification works. Gaming revenue still matters most, but the right entertainment can turn a slow month into a record-breaker.
Last month, Macau’s record monthly GGR was reached since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching MOP21.19 billion and marking the fourth consecutive rise in monthly revenue, triggering upward revisions from various investment banks. Following June’s successful results, it suggests that this upswing in Macau could be more stable than previously predicted.
