Great Britain Remote Gambling GGY Hits £8.3B as Customer Funds Fall 13.9%

The figures come from the Gambling Commission's new annual Industry Statistics release, published on September 17. Total gambling GGY reached £17.5 billion for April 2025 to March 2026, including lotteries, an increase of 4.4%. Remote casino, betting and bingo grew faster than the overall market.
Based on the reported totals, 15M calculates that the remote segment accounted for roughly 47% of all industry GGY, including lottery GGY.
Casino Generated Almost 69% of Remote GGY
Online casino remained the largest part of the remote market. Casino games produced £5.7 billion in GGY during the financial year, while remote betting generated £2.4 billion and remote bingo £147.8 million. That puts casino at approximately 69% of remote casino, betting and bingo GGY.
Slots accounted for £4.8 billion of the £5.7 billion casino total. In other words, about 84% of remote casino GGY came from slots.
Casino also supplied much of the market's growth. In a separate breakdown of the annual figures, the Commission said remote casino GGY increased by £736 million from the previous year.
That increase is larger than the roughly £0.5 billion rise implied by the rounded figures for the remote sector as a whole. The figures therefore point to casino growth offsetting weaker performance elsewhere within remote gambling.
Registrations Fell While GGY Increased
Growth in remote GGY did not come with an increase in new account registrations. Remote casino, betting and bingo operators recorded 32.4 million new registrations during the year, down 3.0%.
The Commission reported 25.7 million active accounts at the end of the final reporting quarter. Funds held in customer accounts stood at £886.6 million, 13.9% lower than at the same point a year earlier.
The account figures should not be treated as a count of individual gamblers. A customer can hold accounts with more than one operator, and the active-account figure is a snapshot at the end of the reporting quarter rather than an annual total.
Licensed Operator Count Drops to 2,154
The wider licensed market continued to contract by operator and retail location count. There were 2,154 gambling operators in the market as of March 31, 2026, down 1.1% year on year. The number of betting shops fell 3.6% to 5,617.
Land-based gambling generated £4.9 billion in GGY during the financial year, up 1.1%, compared with 6.9% growth for the remote sector.
Remote Growth Comes Without More Registrations
The annual figures show that remote gambling continued to take a larger role in the market even as new registrations declined.Casino drove much of the increase, while new account registrations moved in the opposite direction. Slots still accounted for most casino GGY.
For now, the 2025/26 figures leave the remote sector growing faster than the wider market while operators hold less money in customer accounts than a year earlier. The Commission plans to publish the next annual industry statistics in autumn 2027, while updated core industry data will also be released quarterly.
