Finnish Casino Test Finds Hidden Cost in Bonus Terms
Kasinohai tested welcome offers between 15 and 30 June 2026. Researchers registered accounts, deposited money, and recorded the conditions applied to each bonus.
Deposit Formula Changed the Real Cost
In 22 cases, which is 44% of the sample, the amount to be wagered was calculated based on the combination of deposit and bonus. In 13 cases, the multiplier applied solely to the bonus. In the rest of the 15 casinos, there were other types of bonuses such as free spins or promo money.
This formula may double the required wagering volume. A €100 deposit matched by a €100 bonus with a 30x requirement results in €6,000 in required bets. If the multiplier applies only to the bonus, the required amount is €3,000.
In 12 cases, the wagering requirement was 15x or below. Another 19 casinos applied requirements of between 20x and 35x, while another 19 set them at 40x or higher. Within the lowest group, 7 offers had no wagering requirement.
Caps and Game Rules Cut Flexibility
Win caps appeared at 29 casinos, or 58% of the sample. The lowest fixed ceiling in the survey was €25.
Limits for games were featured in 37 online casinos. Live casino bets did not contribute anything towards wagering requirements in 13-16 casinos based on the method of counting indirect exclusions. Some bonus offers limited betting to slots, while others listed excluded games.
The absence of a clear maximum-bet disclosure was another issue. A total of 22 casinos failed to clearly specify a limit in the relevant wagering terms. Another 22 casinos used a maximum bet of around €5 per spin. Violation could result in forfeiture of the bonus and all related winnings.
Timeframes were also diverse. Deadlines of 3 days or less applied at 13 casinos. Another 15 allowed at least 15 days. No wagering timeframe was stated at 8 online casinos.
The Sample Has Clear Limits
The 50 casinos were selected from operators covered and reviewed by Kasinohai. The company describes the group as a random sample from its own listings, rather than a representative sample of the full market.
The test reflects the offers that are provided via one Finnish comparison site at a certain point in time, not all foreign-licensed casinos serving Finnish players.
Licensed Market Bars Acquisition Bonuses
The Finnish Gambling Act gives license holders a limited scope to offer bonus play money and similar benefits during an existing customer relationship. Other offers involving play money, free games, discounts, or special combination deals are prohibited. Welcome bonuses designed to acquire newly registered customers will therefore not be available when licensed competitive online gambling begins on 1 July 2027.
The central issue exposed by the test is disclosure. A familiar multiplier can create very different obligations, while caps, deadlines, and excluded games can cut the practical value further. Finland’s licensed system will close the door on welcome bonuses, but any permitted loyalty benefit will still need plain, visible terms if the reform is to improve player protection.
