bet365 Gets Maryland Sports Betting License Approval

Sports betting operator increases offer to AU$370m for Australian operations

bet365 just secured approval from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency on August 28. This gives the operator the green light to launch in its 15th US state.

It’s the second new market for bet365 this month. The company entered Kansas on August 6. In Maryland, it joins FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM — who handled nearly $364.1m in wagers in July 2025.

Why Maryland’s Market Attracts Major Operators

Maryland’s betting volume speaks for itself. July’s $364.1m handle shows steady player activity across multiple platforms.

bet365 even began rolling out promotional material before its license approval. That confidence points to immediate launch plans.

The state recently raised its sports betting tax from 15% to 20%. Governor Wes Moore originally wanted 30%, but lawmakers settled lower. Even with the increase, Maryland remains competitive compared to other states.

What Changes Under bet365’s Market Entry

Another big-name operator means more competition. bet365 will go head-to-head with FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM.

Alongside the license, bet365 is expanding its product lineup. In August, Inspired Entertainment partnered with the brand to deliver Virtual Sports — including V-Play NHL, NBA Re-Play and Re-Play eSports.

These titles use official team logos and licensed graphics, giving Maryland bettors fresh options beyond traditional sports wagers.

How This Expansion Fits bet365’s US Strategy

Two states in one month highlights bet365’s aggressive growth strategy. The company is pushing hard to cement its place in the US market.

Most operators wait until approval to advertise. bet365 jumped early, signaling confidence in regulators and fast rollout plans.

The Inspired Entertainment deal also strengthens the operator’s portfolio with competitive gaming and virtual sports. At the same time, Greentube expanded its slot titles via bet365 in Ontario in July.

Maryland’s approval adds to a steady state-by-state push. With operations now live in 15 states, bet365 isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
