Telegram’s Emoji Stake Puts TON Wagers Inside Chats
Telegram appears to have moved its Emoji Stake feature from testing into limited use. The tool lets eligible users place TON stakes on emoji dice rolls inside chats.

Emoji Stake turns Telegram’s familiar dice emoji into a crypto wagering feature. Users set a stake in TON, roll the dice, and receive a result inside the messenger interface.

The feature appears to be limited to Telegram users with a profile rating of 5 or higher, according to Durov’s Code. Telegram’s own FAQ says profile rating is tied to successful Telegram Stars transactions, including gifts, paid messages, and suggested posts. Refunds or converted gifts can reduce the rating.

How the Feature Works

With Emoji Stake, everything takes place within Telegram. It is presented as a Telegram-native feature, not as a separate casino site or landing page.

Several elements of Emoji Stake are already included in Telegram translation strings:

  • “Your Stake”;

  • “Results and Returns”;

  • “You won”;

  • “You lost”;

  • A note saying that a streak resets after three rolls or after a stake change.

Telegram translation strings also confirm that the minimum and maximum stake fields exist, but do not show the values.

Durov’s Code reported that a roll of 1 loses the stake. Higher results can return part of the stake or pay a multiplier. The reported live multipliers include 1.2x for 4, 1.5x for 5 and 2x for 6. The outlet also reported a streak bonus, although the mechanics may still change.

Why the Feature May Draw Scrutiny

The feature follows Telegram’s 2025 crackdown on third-party gambling activity. As described by Durov’s Code, there were previously several blocks of casino bots and prohibitions against gambling-related search terms (like “casino” and “freespin”).

In light of all this information, Emoji Stake may become sensitive. Should Telegram decide to host the mechanic directly, regulators may wonder what type of product it appears to be — gambling, a crypto game, or platform functionality.

TON is connected to the whole Telegram ecosystem, while the user experience is provided via a private messenger. All this may be of interest to regulators who enforce the laws governing remote gambling, crypto payments, and youth access.

Market Impact

Telegram’s Emoji Stake shows how gambling-style mechanics can move closer to social messaging. However, the more important shift relates to distribution. A dice wager inside a chat cuts out intermediate processes that take place between discovery and play.

The feature remains limited, and no public policy outlining the possible restrictions for Emoji Stake has been published by Telegram yet. Until that happens, Emoji Stake should probably be treated as an early signal rather than a finished gaming product.
