SJM closes Casino Landmark on December 30
Macau operator moves tables and staff to other properties as venue shuts down

SJM Resorts will shut Casino Landmark at 11:59 pm on December 30. The Macau operator confirmed the closure yesterday.

Casino Landmark has operated under SJM’s license for years. But the company’s now consolidating operations across fewer venues. SJM runs several other casinos in Macau that will absorb Landmark’s gaming assets.

The decision came after coordination with Macau authorities. SJM said the closure aligns with the city’s amended Gaming Law requirements. The operator called it part of supporting “stable and sustainable industry development.”

Why SJM Made This Call

Macau’s regulatory environment has shifted significantly. The amended Gaming Law pushed operators to restructure how they run satellite casinos and third-party managed venues.

SJM cited “evolving regulatory and market conditions” for the move. The company wants to focus resources on properties it directly promotes and manages. This fits Macau’s broader push for tighter oversight of gaming operations.

The closure also reflects industry-wide consolidation. Operators have been trimming satellite properties since new regulations took effect. Regulators prefer fewer, better-controlled venues over scattered operations.

What Happens to Casino Assets

All gaming tables from Landmark will move to other SJM casinos. Electronic gaming machines get redeployed too. None of the equipment goes to waste.

Customers holding chips or deposits can use them at any SJM property starting December 31. Cash rebates transfer as well.

The company emphasised guest access won’t be interrupted. Players can visit comparable venues within the group’s network immediately after Landmark closes. SJM said all customer rights and balances stay valid indefinitely.

How This Affects Workers and Operations

Local employees currently with SJM at Landmark keep their jobs. Period. They’ll be reassigned based on operational needs across other SJM casinos.

Local workers employed directly by Casino Landmark but not under SJM contracts face a different situation. They aren’t technically SJM staff. But SJM will give them priority if they apply for open positions within the group. Equal qualifications mean they get first consideration.

SJM promised support measures for the transition. The company said it’ll follow all legal requirements during the process. Protecting local employment remains a stated priority for the operator.

The closure fits SJM’s broader commitment to Macau’s policy goals. The group said it backs the city’s efforts to build a more resilient and regulated gaming market, and it’ll keep working with community stakeholders on long-term industry stability.
