Maverick Plans Buyback of Eight Washington Casinos Listed for Closure

Maverick Plans Buyback of Eight Washington Casinos Listed for Closure
Maverick Gaming owner Eric Persson says the company plans to buy back eight Washington cardrooms that were listed for possible closure on November 30. He told the Puget Sound Business Journal that the properties would remain open after the transaction and that workers affected by the WARN notices would be rehired.

The September notices covered 850 positions across casinos in Everett, Silverdale, Yakima, Pasco, Kennewick and Lakewood. The notices listed November 30 as the effective closure date, although a change in ownership could alter that outcome.

Three Weeks Puts the Deal in Late October

Persson said Maverick Gaming expects the asset purchase from RunItOneTime to close in about three weeks. From his October 5 comments, that points to late October (more than a month before the November 30 date listed in the WARN notices).

That leaves a different picture from the one that emerged last week. The notices still stand, but they no longer look like a straightforward timetable for eight permanent closures if the transaction closes as Persson expects.

The affected venues are Casino Caribbean, Crazy Moose Casino, Coyote Bobs Casino, All Star Casino, Great American Casino, Palace Casino, Macau Casino and Chips Casino. Together, their notices account for 850 positions, including dealers, servers, bartenders and cooks.

Maverick Plans to Buy Assets Back from RunItOneTime

Persson said Maverick Gaming had transferred assets to RunItOneTime after revenue fell following the pandemic. RunItOneTime and affiliated debtors filed for Chapter 11 protection in the Southern District of Texas in July 2025.

The current plan would move the eight Washington properties back to Maverick Gaming. Persson said the WARN filings were triggered by the ownership change rather than a final decision to eliminate the locations.

The 850 positions also need to be kept separate from other Washington cuts reported this year. Earlier notices covered 238 jobs at two Tukwila properties and another 188 positions in summer reductions. Added together, the separate rounds referenced 1,276 positions, but they have different dates and outcomes (not 1,276 pending layoffs).
