Jamul Casino Resort in San Diego officially opened its new hotel tower during a celebration weekend that brought together tribal leadership and local officials. Chairwoman Erica Pinto led welcome remarks alongside other tribal members during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Mary Cheeks, the resort’s President and GM, called it “a long time coming” and highlighted years of dedication behind the project.
Several San Diego area officials joined the festivities. Mayor Todd Gloria, Supervisor Joel Anderson, National City Mayor Ron Morrison and Chula Vista Mayor John McCann all shared remarks during the opening events.
Former San Diego Padres pitcher Trevor Hoffman kicked off celebrations at the Starlite Pool, adding some local sports celebrity appeal to the weekend.
Why This Expansion Matters for the Region
The new tower represents a major investment in the local community, with Cheeks affirming their commitment to “revitalising the community” through the project.
This expansion transforms Jamul from just a casino into a full resort experience. That’s significant for San Diego’s hospitality landscape, especially given the area’s competitive tourism market.
The project also demonstrates the tribe’s growing economic presence in the region. Years of planning and development went into creating what they’re calling a “truly exceptional experience” for guests.
What the New Tower Offers Guests
The 16-story property packs in premium amenities that rival major resort destinations. A full-service spa with salon services anchors the wellness offerings, while a rooftop pool provides scenic views of the San Diego area.
Dining gets an upgrade too with a signature restaurant venue. The property also features the Fly Room speakeasy and Signature Club for more exclusive experiences.
These additions complement the existing casino floor. Now guests can play, dine, relax and stay overnight all in one location.
The tower’s design focuses on creating that complete resort experience Cheeks mentioned.
How the Opening Weekend Unfolded
The celebration started with that official ribbon-cutting ceremony, but it didn’t stop there. Guests got exclusive access to several premium venues including the Fly Room speakeasy, Signature Club and Starlite Pool where Hoffman appeared.
Actor Glenn Howerton hosted whiskey tastings in the Fly Room along with exclusive bottle giveaways for VIP guests. The weekend wrapped up with a party at the Starlite Pool.
These events gave early guests a taste of what the expanded resort offers. The mix of celebrity appearances, exclusive venue access and VIP perks set the tone for the property’s upscale positioning moving forward.
The opening marks a new chapter for Jamul Casino Resort as it competes with other major San Diego area destinations.
