Bola Group Puts WhatsApp at the Center of Its Zambia Betting Push
Bola Group has introduced Chatbet in Zambia, allowing customers to bet through WhatsApp rather than an app or website. The launch gives the operator a lower-data route into sports betting before a planned expansion in southern Africa.

Bola Group is introducing the Bolabet brand to an interface that local users are quite familiar with. Chatbet operates through WhatsApp. Bettors can ask for odds, send messages, and place their bets all within the platform.

Mobile Costs Shape the Product

The product is powered by ChatLayer Media Technologies and covers major sports. Its core selling point is practicality. Mobile data can create barriers for regular sportsbook use. A chat-based interface, in turn, removes several steps from the betting process. There is no need for downloads or browser sessions in that case.

That allows the Bola Group to address a widespread issue in Africa. Smartphone use is rising, but cost and connection quality still shape how people access online services. In that respect, an application can turn into a barrier rather than a sales channel for operators.

Zambia Comes First

Zambia is Chatbet’s first African market. Bola Group is also preparing to launch its product in Zimbabwe and Malawi, where the company currently operates the Bolabet brand.

The timing puts Chatbet in the market as the 2026 FIFA World Cup opens, when football betting demand is likely to be higher. Bola Group is leveraging that opportunity to see if a messenger-first product can attract casual football bettors who may avoid app-based services.

Hilton Hasson, CEO of Bola Group, said it took his team six months to develop the product for Africa’s environment. Hasson mentioned WhatsApp usage, data cost, and limited digital coverage in local sports betting as key factors behind the launch.

Voice Notes Add a Local Layer

One of Chatbet’s notable features is support for voice messages. Players who prefer giving commands verbally or are accustomed to using voice messages when texting via WhatsApp are likely to appreciate that.

For operators, the feature also signals a change in product design. Rather than forcing users to adjust to how the sportsbook looks and works, Chatbet integrates betting into everyday communication. This may reduce friction but increases the need for proper confirmation and responsible gaming measures.

What It Means for African Betting

The launch is indicative of how the African operators are thinking beyond the traditional model of websites and apps. Access to payment channels, data charges, and customer behavior determine which products succeed.

Chatbet still has to prove that convenience can turn into repeat use. As the product scales, the chat-based model will also need clear compliance, age verification, and player protection controls.

For now, Bola Group has made a focused bet on distribution. If WhatsApp wagering performs well in Zambia during the World Cup cycle, other operators may look at messaging apps as a serious front door for African sportsbooks.
