Betway Enters Formula 1 as Official Betting Operator
Betway has secured a multi-year partnership with Formula 1. The gambling company becomes the sport’s official betting operator and gets exposure to new data-driven wagering markets.

That’s a notable step in the relationship between motorsport and regulated betting operators. According to Betway’s parent company, Super Group, this partnership is the first arrangement of its type within Formula 1’s commercial ecosystem.

The deal expands Betway’s involvement in motorsport. Previously, the company signed a sponsorship agreement with the Atlassian Williams Formula 1 Team.

Partnership Focuses on Real-Time Race Data

The collaboration is notable mainly for the introduction of new betting markets tied to live race developments. These markets are expected to draw on Formula 1’s detailed data streams, which track performance and strategy across teams and drivers.

Through the partnership, Betway plans to offer in-play options linked to race strategy elements. In particular, live betting opportunities may refer to the following:

  • Safety car deployments;
  • Pit stop windows;
  • Tactical decisions by teams during races

The initiative builds on an existing collaboration between Formula 1 and Alt Sports Data. The latter works with sports organizations to structure regulated betting markets using official competition data.

Formula 1 races generate large volumes of telemetry and timing information. Such a data-rich environment allows for real-time betting opportunities, alongside pre-match markets.

Expanding the Role of Betting in Fan Engagement

Formula 1 officials indicated that the partnership reflects broader changes in how bettors approach live sporting events. Jonny Haworth, director of commercial partnerships at Formula 1, said the data ecosystem around this sport allows for new forms of interaction with race strategy. According to him, the sports dynamics (with pit strategies and safety car periods) can provide a foundation for the markets built on official data feeds.

Super Group CEO Neal Menashe stated that the agreement aligns with the company’s Betway expansion strategy in high-profile sports properties. He said that introducing betting formats that reflect the tactical nature of Formula 1 races is the brand’s priority.

Motorsport Continues to Attract Betting Partnerships

Formula 1 and motorsport as a whole are known for their reliance on detailed performance data and constant shifts in race strategies. These are different from sports with relatively fixed gameplay patterns. Since strategic decisions in Formula 1 can change race outcomes in seconds, this sport becomes a strong candidate for data-driven betting markets that evolve throughout a race.

For betting operators, official partnerships also provide access to verified data feeds and visibility during major events.

Market Implications

The status of the official Formula 1 betting operator gives Betway access to new commercial models tied to real-time data. The success of this partnership could encourage other leagues and racing series to expand betting integrations built around official competition data.

For Formula 1, the agreement is an example of how the sport can monetize its data infrastructure within a controlled and regulated environment.
