Redefining Strength: Pierre Lindh on Turning Personal Challenges Into Leadership Power

3 season • Episode 11

How honesty, self awareness, and resilience shape stronger leadership

Pierre Lindh, co-founder and Managing Director of NEXT.io, steps away from business performance and industry events in this conversation to talk about a different side of leadership. He reflects on vulnerability, well being, and authenticity, and on how those qualities shape the way people lead, connect, and grow.

Your challenges don’t define you

Pierre speaks openly about his hearing condition, a degenerative issue that makes loud and highly social environments especially difficult. On paper, it could have looked like a serious obstacle to building one of the most community focused event businesses in iGaming. But for him, the important thing is not the limitation itself. It is the decision not to let that limitation define what is possible. He believes many people underestimate how much strength can come from facing the very thing they assume will hold them back.

Well being as a strategic advantage

Pierre points out that the pace of the industry has changed. What was once a calendar built around a few major annual events has turned into a constant cycle of travel, networking, and back to back conferences. That kind of rhythm comes with a cost. The old routine of little sleep, heavy drinking, and nonstop socializing is harder and harder to sustain. He argues that being well rested, present, and mentally sharp brings far more value than trying to stretch every event as far as possible. In practice, that leads to better conversations, better decisions, and better business.

The real cost of alcohol in networking

Pierre is not making a moral argument about drinking, but he is clear about the trade off. Alcohol may make socialising feel easier in the moment, but it often affects how people show up the next day. He sees moderation as something that can improve the whole event experience. Once people move past the feeling that they need a drink to relax, confidence becomes something they build for themselves. For those who find networking difficult, that shift can make events feel more manageable and much more worthwhile.

Balance is not the opposite of ambition

Pierre does not see wellness and ambition as competing forces. He believes balance becomes more realistic when movement feels enjoyable rather than forced. Whether that means running, martial arts, or simply going for a walk, the point is to choose something that adds energy instead of feeling like another obligation. He describes the mental shift that happens when physical activity becomes part of how you reset and think more clearly. That kind of rhythm can support better focus, creativity, and resilience.

Authenticity is the new currency

Whether someone is speaking on stage, building a company, or meeting partners, Pierre believes people respond most strongly to those who are comfortable being themselves. He does not connect with the more performative version of leadership that tries to impress through force or image. For him, business is built through trust and human connection. People want to work with those they feel comfortable with, those they respect, and those who feel genuine in the way they show up.

Real leadership is letting others shine

Pierre also speaks about leadership in very practical terms. Many people step into leadership feeling they need to prove themselves by having all the answers or by outperforming everyone around them. He sees that instinct as limiting. A strong leader creates space for other people to grow, contribute, and eventually exceed expectations. In his view, leadership is not about staying at the centre of everything. It is about helping other people become stronger in their own right.

What strength looks like in practice

Pierre’s perspective brings leadership back to something more human. Strength is not about appearing flawless or always being in control. It is built through honesty, resilience, self awareness, and the willingness to keep growing. This conversation shows how vulnerability, well being, and trust in others can shape a style of leadership that feels more grounded, more sustainable, and more real.
