Wynn Resorts Completes Wynn Mayfair Purchase from Crown Resorts in London

UK Gaming Commission approves deal for London's most exclusive casino club

Wynn Resorts just closed its purchase of Wynn Mayfair from Crown Resorts. The UK Gaming Commission gave final approval for the deal.

The casino sits at 27-28 Curzon Street in Mayfair. It’s housed in two historic townhouses that have been London’s premier private gaming destination.

For over fifty years, this members-only club attracted royalty and celebrities. Princess Margaret was a regular. So were actors like Richard Burton, Roger Moore, and Peter Sellers.

This purchase expands Wynn’s reach into Europe and the Middle East. The timing isn’t random – Wynn Al Marjan Island opens in the UAE in early 2027.

The club started as the White Elephant Club in the 1960s. Gaming legend John Aspinall introduced casino operations to the venue.

Twenty gaming tables spread across multiple levels. The main gaming floor handles most action. Six private salons offer exclusive play for high rollers.

An open-air rooftop terrace provides gaming, dining, and cocktails. It’s one of the few London venues where smoking is still allowed.

The Bar and The Dining Room now serve both members and the public. The menu features locally sourced dishes alongside specialty cocktails and wines.

Inside, guests find antique collections and artwork. Both classical and contemporary pieces fill the space. Plush furnishings aim to complete the luxury feel.

Wynn now controls premium gaming experiences across three continents. Vegas anchors North America. Macau dominates Asia. London gives them a European base.

The Mayfair club reportedly doesn’t compete with mass-market casinos. Instead, it aims to target ultra-high-net-worth individuals who value exclusivity over flashy entertainment.

This acquisition positions Wynn ahead of the UAE opening. Wealthy Middle Eastern clients often travel to London. Having operations in both cities creates synergies.

The deal also signals Wynn’s confidence in international expansion. While other operators focus on domestic markets, Wynn continues building its global footprint.

Crown Resorts gets to focus on its core Australian business. The sale removes regulatory complexity while providing capital for other investments.

For London’s gaming scene, this means continued investment in premium experiences.

In May 2025, Wynn Resorts made the decision to withdraw its gaming licence application process in New York.

Wynn Resorts managed to gain approval from the City Planning Commission in April 2025. However, decided not to follow through, stating: “After careful consideration, we have decided not to lodge an application for a gaming licence in New York City. There are uses for our capital more accretive to our shareholders.”

With New York plans halted, Wynn Resorts now focuses on this latest London development and the ongoing Wynn Al Marjan Island project in the UAE. No other new casino developments have been announced yet.
