Owen O’Donoghue is PCH’s new CEO. He comes from Meta, where he ran gaming partnerships across Europe and North America.
Before Meta, O’Donoghue co-founded InfiniGods and served as chief revenue officer. He also helped scale Microsoft’s gaming business. ARB Interactive bought PCH for $7.1 million and tapped O’Donoghue to run the company’s digital overhaul.
Patrick Fechtmeyer, ARB Interactive’s CEO, said O’Donoghue’s “expertise in gaming and digital engagement makes him the perfect leader” for PCH’s next phase. The appointment came shortly after the acquisition closed.
Why PCH Needs This Leadership Change
The company’s moving away from its traditional sweepstakes model. It’s going mobile-first with free-to-play games and ad-supported content.
But there’s a problem. California just passed Assembly Bill 831 in a 36-0 Senate vote on September 9. The bill bans dual-currency and prize-awarding sweepstakes operators from the state. That’s a massive market to lose.
PCH needs someone who understands both gaming tech and regulatory challenges. O’Donoghue’s Meta background gives him that mix. The company’s also trying to rebuild trust with a younger, mobile-focused audience while keeping its classic sweepstakes fans happy.
It’s not an easy balance. Traditional PCH customers expect mail-based prizes and TV commercials. Younger players want apps and instant gratification.
What Changes O’Donoghue’s Bringing to PCH
PCH’s launching a Prize Protection Program. It’s a bankruptcy-remote structure that secures all future sweepstakes payouts with investment-grade assets.
Every payout gets honoured regardless of ARB Interactive’s financial health. O’Donoghue called it “an industry best practice” that “should be standard to protect all sweepstakes participants.”
The company’s also rebuilding its platform for mobile. That means new games, better tech, and what they’re calling “transparent and compliant” gaming experiences. O’Donoghue said he’s “thrilled to join Publishers Clearing House at this pivotal moment.”
How This Reshapes PCH’s Market Position
O’Donoghue will oversee PCH’s transformation from mail-based sweepstakes to digital gaming platform. He’s using ARB Interactive’s technology to expand the free-to-play games lineup.
The Prize Protection Program could set a new industry standard. If it works, other sweepstakes operators might have to follow suit to stay competitive.
And with California’s new ban on certain sweepstakes models, PCH needs to prove it can operate cleanly in regulated markets. O’Donoghue’s job is making sure the company doesn’t just survive the shift to digital, it leads it.
The timing matters. Sweepstakes gaming faces more scrutiny than ever. O’Donoghue’s bringing expertise from platforms that already dealt with those pressures. His blockchain work at InfiniGods suggests he understands transparent gaming systems.
