Picklebet becomes the sixth member of Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA)

Online operator joins industry advocacy group representing licensed wagering providers

Picklebet became the newest member of Responsible Wagering Australia this week. The announcement adds a sixth operator to the industry advocacy group.

Founded in 2020, Picklebet operates as an Australian-owned wagering platform. The company employs more than 100 people according to RWA’s statement.

RWA describes itself as the collective voice of Australia’s licensed online wagering providers. The organisation includes both established operators and newer market entrants.

Kai Cantwell serves as RWA’s CEO. Nick Heaney holds the CEO position at Picklebet.

RWA stated the addition represents its commitment to representing the full breadth of the licensed online wagering industry. The organisation includes both long-established operators and emerging platforms.

Cantwell said expanding membership strengthens RWA’s advocacy capabilities. “We achieve the best outcomes for consumers, industry, and government when we work together,” he stated.

The organisation aims to have its safer gambling initiatives reflect the entire market. Including newer operators supports this objective.

RWA wants to advocate with what it calls a “united voice” across the industry. The expanded membership base supports this goal according to the organisation.

RWA’s member list now includes bet365, Betfair, PointsBet, Sportsbet, Unibet, and Picklebet. The organisation states this represents the majority of Australia’s licensed online wagering market.

Membership allows Picklebet to participate in industry standard discussions. The company can contribute to conversations about regulation and responsible gambling practices.

“As a growing operator, it’s important for us to have a seat at the table when it comes to industry standards, regulation and responsible gambling,” Heaney said.

RWA focuses on supporting regulated, responsible, and sustainable industry practices. Members participate in these initiatives collectively.

The organisation works on what it describes as safer gambling initiatives. These programs now include input from all six member companies.

Picklebet gains access to industry collaboration through RWA membership. The company can work with other operators on regulatory and standards issues.

“Picklebet was built with a focus on innovation, but also with a clear responsibility to do things the right way,” Heaney explained. He said joining RWA means “being part of the bigger industry conversation.”

RWA receives input from Picklebet’s perspective as a newer market entrant. The organisation can incorporate this viewpoint into its advocacy work.

The partnership allows Picklebet to “work alongside other leading operators to help shape a safe and sustainable future for wagering in Australia,” according to Heaney.

Cantwell said the addition helps “uplift industry standards” across the membership. The combined group now covers most of Australia’s regulated online wagering sector.

Both organisations focus on responsible gambling practices and regulatory compliance.

Earlier this year, RWA stressed its concern over the Northern Territory Government doubling its annual tax cap on licensed bookmakers without industry consultation.
