Karen Listo Named Permanent GM at Desert Diamond
Listo moves from interim to permanent general manager at two Arizona casino properties

Karen Listo just landed the permanent GM job at Desert Diamond Casino’s West Valley locations, making official what had been an interim arrangement since earlier this year. The promotion happened on September 23, giving her control of both Desert Diamond Casino West Valley and Desert Diamond Casino White Tanks.

She’s hardly a newcomer to Desert Diamond operations, though. As an enrolled member of the Tohono O’odham Nation that owns all five Desert Diamond properties across Arizona, Listo previously managed the three southern Arizona casinos before moving to the West Valley sites.

The Nation’s gaming portfolio spans from southern Arizona up to the competitive Phoenix Valley market, where the two West Valley properties have been making their mark.

Why This Appointment Made Perfect Sense

The move creates what executives are calling a “seamless transition,” mainly because Listo already knew the West Valley operations inside and out from her interim role. But there’s more to it than simple continuity.

Desert Diamond’s West Valley casinos have been growing fast, transforming from what started as a humble bingo facility into serious competitors with major gaming venues across the Phoenix area. That kind of rapid growth needs experienced leadership, and Listo brings exactly that after successfully running the Nation’s three southern properties.

CEO Daniele Chilton, who herself joined Desert Diamond just this past February to oversee all five properties, specifically highlighted Listo’s leadership skills as crucial for what comes next. With nearly 4,000 employees now working across the gaming enterprise, it’s become a major economic engine for both the Nation and Arizona’s broader economy.

What Changes With Listo’s New Role

Day-to-day operations at both West Valley properties now fall under Listo’s permanent oversight, though she’d already been handling most of these responsibilities as interim manager. The difference is the long-term planning and strategic direction she can now pursue without the uncertainty of a temporary position.

“I am both humbled and honoured to serve as General Manager for our two West Valley casinos,” Listo said, noting how the properties have earned recognition as “leaders in gaming entertainment across the Phoenix Valley” in just a few short years.

Her background managing Desert Diamond’s southern Arizona operations gives her comprehensive knowledge of the company’s culture and operational standards, which should help maintain consistency across the growing enterprise.

How This Fits Desert Diamond’s Growth Strategy

Listo’s vision centres on building from what she calls the facilities’ “humble beginnings as a bingo facility,” but with clear focus on future expansion. “We have built a strong enterprise from our humble beginnings, and I look forward to working to continue to build on this success and move our operations forward,” she explained.

Chilton expects Listo will drive further expansion of West Valley operations, calling the gaming business a “major economic engine” for the Nation. With Desert Diamond now ranking among Arizona’s larger gaming operators thanks to its nearly 4,000-person workforce, the West Valley locations represent the newer frontier in their push into competitive Phoenix-area markets.

The appointment signals the Nation’s confidence in sustained growth at properties that have already exceeded expectations in their short operating history.
