BetBlocker, a charity offering free gambling management tools, just added Serbian to its app. The UK and US-based group worked with Gamblers Connect to make this happen.
This marks another step in BetBlocker’s push to help problem gamblers in their native languages.
Without Gamblers Connect’s free translation help, this project reportedly wouldn’t have gotten off the ground. The affiliate site showed real generosity by supporting BetBlocker’s mission.
About 7 million people in Serbia speak the language, with another 3 million spread worldwide. These folks now have access to gambling help without language barriers.
A 2018 study in International Gambling Studies found that 0.5% of Serbians qualify as problem gamblers. Sports bettors showed the highest risk.
Serbia doesn’t have many gambling support options right now, according to BetBlocker. This makes the new tool especially valuable for locals struggling with betting habits.
The app lets users block gambling sites and apps in their native language. It’s part of BetBlocker’s year-long push to add more languages.
BetBlocker designed the tool to have zero friction. They want nothing stopping people from using it when gambling gets out of hand.
Gamblers Connect’s founder Gjorgje Ristikj called the launch “a meaningful step forward” and expressed pride in supporting “responsible gambling initiatives that truly make a difference.”
Ristikj commented: “I’m glad to see our collaboration with BetBlocker continuing in such a positive and impactful way. Launching the Serbian version is a meaningful step forward and we’re proud to support responsible gambling initiatives that truly make a difference.”
Duncan Garvie, who founded BetBlocker, called the project “a win for everyone.” He pointed out it helps Serbian gamblers while also showing how affiliates can support safer gambling.
Garvie believes the affiliate sector hasn’t done enough for safer gambling messages. Yet he says “no one knows how to communicate to players better than affiliates.”
Garvie said: “Obviously, it’s great news for Serbian gamblers that BetBlocker is now available in their language. Serbia doesn’t currently have the range of support options for people looking to stop or manage their gambling, so this is a substantial step forward in terms of harm minimisation.”
The collaboration sets an example. BetBlocker hopes it leads to more partnerships between gambling affiliates and support charities down the road.
This launch adds to BetBlocker’s growing list of language options. Their goal? Helping every problem gambler, no matter what language they speak.
In March 2025, BetBocker appointed John Wright and Darrell Helyar to BetBlocker’s Board of Trustees. Both individuals previously worked on expanding the charity’s reach and operational capacity.
BetBlocker now hopes this new language tool will lead to improved access to self-exclusion tools and heightened awareness of safer gambling practices.
