WeMade Maps Overseas iGaming Expansion Through Play Links
The South Korean game publisher WeMade, most known for the Legends of Mir franchise, said it plans further expansion in iGaming through its affiliate WeMade Play's studio Play Links. According to the South Korean media, this is described as a full-scale overseas push planned for 2026

Play Links says it’s already launched five slots-style social casino titles, with combined reported usage above one million daily users. Now the studio is teasing a bigger release called Slotopolis, built around collectible items rather than a pure spin-and-win loop.

Not all the games are slots. The publisher claims to be developing card and puzzle games with competitive elements too, framing it as a much more general pipeline as part of a “casino-adjacent” casual portfolio. The same reports peg the debut window at the third quarter of this financial year.

The newly appointed CEO of Play Links, Seok Jeong-won, has defined the objective in very concrete terms: to enter the field in 2008 and demonstrate sales impact, rather than downloads.

Why the Growth Plan Is Abroad, Not at Home

The target markets for WeMade are Europe and North America, as a regulated iGaming ecosystem is available in these regions, and the routes for distribution are clear.

At home, the boundaries are more pronounced. In South Korea, online gambling is strictly prohibited, and “game money,” which is cash equivalent used in determining winning predictions, has been deemed gambling. That legal landscape also sheds light on why enforcement stories keep emerging, such as the Busan case in Jan 2026 involving suspected illegal gambling activity treated on corporate scales.

Activity in Blockchain Provides Context

The aspiration of iGaming by WeMade exists alongside its more established attempt to raise awareness about its blockchain-related ideas under the brand of WEMIX. It’s also linked to sporting sponsorships, which come under the banner of the WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP.

This is worth providing because WeMade has a history with digital economies. However, iGaming regulation still comes down to licensure, compliant distribution, and access to the partners.

WeMade claimed plans to expand the business by providing slots titles via partnerships with authorized distribution companies, suggesting that the company is taking a partner-led model as opposed to a land grab model of going directly to market.

Expert Take

The true test lies in whether Play Links can leverage social casino engagement mechanics (like collectibles and competition loops) to build products that deliver to expectations within regulated markets. Partners might care less about innovation and more about deliverability against both regulatory needs and performance.

If WeMade delivers, the company could become a new supplier in the industry, competing for operator shelf space in Western countries that have a mature gaming landscape. Yet, if it fails, Slotopolis could work as a social casino title, and the whole overseas iGaming expansion narrative might falter on the whims of distribution.
