Online Casinos Lead Slovakia’s Record €26.7 Billion Gambling Year
Slovakia’s gambling market recorded a new high in 2025, as the total wagers reached a new level of €26.77 billion. The major change was the market structure, as online casinos emerged as the strongest revenue contributor.

According to the Slovak Gambling Regulatory Authority (ÚRHH), Slovakia’s gambling market generated a gross revenue of €1.55 billion in the last year, up 7.2% from 2024. Notably, players received a total of €25.22 billion as winnings from their bets.

Online casinos emerged as the strongest driver in the market, contributing 36.6% to the total revenue generated by the industry in 2025. Particularly, they brought a revenue of €568.6 million for the market in the year, and the share of their contribution has increased fast. Four years ago, virtual casinos represented only 21.6% of the market, and in 2024, their share was below one-third.

What’s Behind the Pace

The growth pace is more significant than the absolute figures. It indicates that the expansion of gambling in Slovakia is no longer determined by physical facilities. There is a trend towards easier and quicker play through digital media and mobile devices.

The online casino segment also looks lucrative from a fiscal point of view. It reportedly contributed €151.1 million to the state budget, and this explains the significance of this sector in both economic and political discourse.

Land-Based Gambling Did Not Move in One Direction

The land-based sector still produced a lot of revenue, but the trend was mixed rather than consistent. The total revenue from gambling dens and casinos was €469.3 million in 2025, putting the segment well behind online casinos.

Breaking down the figures, smaller machine-based gaming venues were in decline. Traditional gambling dens reported a 15.6% year-over-year decline in revenue to €286.6 million. Full-scale casinos, on the other hand, reported an increase in revenue by €40.7 million to €182.67 million.

Other gaming areas have been more stable. Sports betting revenues increased by 3.4% to €323.83 million, which generated levies of €89.12 million. Lotteries also saw revenues go up by €51.29 million to public funds, which is €3.6 million more than last year.

Higher Tax Intake Means More Pressure on Oversight

The state revenue from gambling taxes and levies was nearly €370 million in 2025, an increase of €22.67 million from the previous year. This is a notable contribution to the budget, but more activity online might mean more pressure for regulation.

A legislative reform was introduced in January 2026 in Slovakia that puts the Gambling Regulatory Authority at the core of consumer protection oversight. This comes at a good time for the market. A sector that relies so much on digital activity can be easier to enter, but more difficult to regulate, especially as younger users come into play.

Final Notes

The data from 2025 indicates a definite shift in the way the Slovak gambling industry operates. The country is now generating more revenue from online gambling, and there is a greater contribution to state revenue from this segment.

For operators, it looks like a positive development. Policymakers, in turn, are likely to have more work related to overseeing the prospering segment.
