Great Canadian earns RG reaccreditation for 10 properties
Ten casino properties operated by Great Canadian Entertainment received renewed responsible gaming certification from Canada's leading RG oversight body

Great Canadian Entertainment secured responsible gaming reaccreditation for 10 of its casino properties last week. The Responsible Gaming Council issued the certifications after reviewing each location’s player protection programs.

The RGC operates as an independent non-profit organisation. It sets standards for Canadian casinos and verifies operators meet responsible gaming requirements. Great Canadian’s certified properties include River Rock Casino Resort, Great Canadian Casino Vancouver, Casino Nova Scotia Halifax, Casino Nova Scotia Sydney, and Elements Casino Mohawk.

Several other Great Canadian properties will undergo the same reaccreditation process before 2026 ends. The company operates multiple casino facilities across Canada.

Why This Certification Matters for Operators

The RG check examines specific operational areas that protect players. Casinos must demonstrate proper staff training programs, effective self-exclusion systems, and clear advertising standards. The RGC also evaluates how facilities safeguard players and maintain continuous improvement practices.

Getting reaccredited isn’t automatic. Each property faces detailed assessment of its responsible gaming initiatives, employee training protocols, and player awareness programs. The certification confirms operators actually implement the protections they promise.

Keno Maseli, Great Canadian’s Social Responsibility and Sustainability Manager, called the October reaccreditation “a tremendous milestone.” He said responsible gaming sits “at the heart of our operations.”

What the Reaccreditation Process Verified

The RGC verified each of the 10 properties offers complete RG programs. Auditors checked that employee training meets standards and player protection initiatives work as designed.

Great Canadian had to show its player awareness programs reach customers effectively. The company also demonstrated its safeguards protect vulnerable players from harm.

Maseli credited the achievement to Great Canadian’s team members, the RGC, and Crown partners. He said they collectively set “high standards of excellence in player protection” across the company’s portfolio.

How Industry Oversight Continues Expanding

The RGC isn’t stopping with traditional certification programs. On September 2, the Responsible Online Gaming Association partnered with RGC to develop a new certification specifically for online operators.

This upcoming program will provide “independent validation” of operator performance in responsible gaming. It focuses on long-term accountability rather than one-time checks.

The new certification aims to push growth beyond current industry standards. It builds on previous RGC-ROGA collaborations like the Know Your Play college education campaign. That initiative targeted younger adults with responsible gaming information.

The partnership signals tighter oversight for Canada’s online gambling market. Operators will face more rigorous assessment of their player protection measures going forward.
