DIMOCO and NEO.bet get first German carrier billing approval from GGL regulator

Payment provider and sportsbook receive groundbreaking authorisation from GGL regulator

DIMOCO became the first payment provider authorised to offer carrier billing in Germany’s regulated iGaming market. The Austrian company partnered with NEO.bet to get approval from the German regulator GGL.

NEO.bet will be the first operator to offer this payment method to German players. The sportsbook’s parent company is Greenvest Betting Limited.

DIMOCO already provides carrier billing in Poland and Austria. STS, a major Polish sports betting company, uses its services.

Bettina Sommer serves as Senior Vice-President of Sales at DIMOCO. Galina Werner is Managing Director at Greenvest Betting Limited.

Germans prefer alternative payment methods over credit and debit cards. They also favour simplified payment systems according to DIMOCO’s research.

Germany has extremely high smartphone penetration rates. The country had 87% mobile subscriber penetration and 83% smartphone adoption in 2024.

GSMA expects Germany to have 111 million smartphone connections by 2030. That would make it Europe’s highest.

The European Gaming & Betting Association ranks Germany as Europe’s fourth-largest iGaming market by gross gaming revenues. This makes regulatory approval significant for payment providers.

DIMOCO uses an agent model with mobile network operators (MNOs). Under this system, MNOs act as DIMOCO’s agents to accept payments.

This setup lets them operate outside usual EU regulations. DIMOCO handles all compliance and KYC processes for betting companies.

Austria’s Financial Markets Authority licenses DIMOCO. The company had to apply jointly with Greenvest to get German approval.

“The process of gaining approval from the GGL was lengthy and rigorous and DIMOCO proved the ideal partner to help us navigate this,” Werner said.

Licensed German operators can now accept carrier billing payments up to standard player limits.

Only licensed operators can offer carrier billing due to strict GGL and mobile operator requirements. This could give regulated companies an advantage over unlicensed competitors.

“We therefore view it as something that could give regulated sportsbooks and casinos an advantage against unlicensed companies, which both the regulator and the government have expressed a desire to expel from the German market,” Sommer explained.

The approval reinforces efforts to push illegal operators out of Germany. Both the regulator and government want to eliminate unlicensed gambling companies.

Players can now pay directly from their mobile accounts. This seamless process should appeal to German consumers who prefer simplified transactions.

Germany continues developing as a 5G pioneer according to GSMA data.

In February 2024, Neo.bet and Push Gaming secured a deal to bring Push Gaming’s slot portfolio to Canadian players in Ontario using the Neo.bet platform. The agreement meant Ontario players gained access to slot titles such as Tazor Returns, Jammin’ Jars, Retro Tapes and Big Bamboo.
