Sky News reported on May 27 that BloxFlip had emailed one of its journalists to announce its return under new ownership. The same site mentioned in December 2024 that it was shutting down permanently after Sky News presented its findings to BloxFlip and Roblox in 2024.
Shutdown Did Not End the Model
The reported return transforms the situation from a single closure into an enforcement test. Although BloxFlip was not housed in Roblox, its mechanisms relied on the Roblox economy system. Users were able to log in using their Roblox accounts, stake Robux or Roblox objects, and get payouts in either Roblox or cryptocurrency.
This creates a difficult split in responsibility. Roblox controls its platform. Gambling markets are regulated by gambling authorities. The casino websites may be independent of the game, yet their traffic and payment logic still depend on Roblox’s digital economy.
UK Access Became a Pressure Point
Some Roblox-related casinos tried to block users located in regions in which they were not licensed, including the UK. According to Sky News, the Rollbet team offered instructions on how to bypass those blocks via the use of VPNs. Rollbet announced a shutdown following the latest investigation.
Furthermore, Bloxflip published a notice in its chatroom after Sky News contacted the Gambling Commission. The message stated that the UK had been banned by BloxFlip due to regulations. It suggests that while enforcement may lead to restrictions, they are often implemented too late.
The child-protection problem is still at stake. Sky News noted that users openly admitted in the casino chatrooms that they were underage without facing any consequences. Additionally, the websites provided gambling-like products linked to Robux and cryptocurrency assets.
Roblox and Regulator Face Fresh Scrutiny
According to Roblox, it prohibits simulated and actual gambling via its platform or off-platform transactions for any Roblox-related content, including items and Robux. Roblox further said that these websites are not endorsed or authorised by Roblox. It also noted that it filters references to these sites across its platform and takes action against related accounts.
The UK Gambling Commission said it takes reports of illegal sites seriously and is acting on them already. The regulator added that it collaborates with other regulatory agencies, GamStop, licensed operators, technology companies, financial institutions, and law enforcers.
BloxFlip Case Implications
The BloxFlip case demonstrates the enforcement challenge associated with Roblox-linked gambling sites. Blocking access to such sites from the UK and shutting down particular communities could be a temporary fix. The real question, however, is whether or not regulators and platforms can cut off the visibility and payment channels that make these sites attractive to users.
